Silk House: Boutique Accommodation in Metaxourgeio

In the intimate setting of Silk House, our luxury boutique accommodation in Metaxourgeio, stories take root in the smallest details. The plush rooms hold a collection of artworks, pictures and retro finds that invite a closer look. Some are noticed immediately. Others appear after you have unpacked, rested and properly explored our restored neoclassical home in Athens.

A framed black-and-white photograph recalls the intimacy of a family album. On a bedroom table, a small domed wooden chest holds its own quiet mystery. Elsewhere, a reclining figure brings a quieter, sculptural presence to the room. These pieces invite their own interpretation.

A Home Where Art Feels Personal

However, a beautiful property does not need to explain every detail. Instead, it can leave room for imagination. At The Halo Collection, we believe works of art should feel accessible, approachable and deeply personal. The spaces we love reveal something about us through the things we choose to keep close. Here, every piece has been selected for more than its aesthetic appeal and sits naturally within the spacious rooms.

They may also bring back personal recollections and initiate conversation. A book can inspire travel plans. A painting can raise a question. A familiar object can bring back a memory worth sharing. One guest may recall a grandmother’s vase, while another may remember a first journey with an antique chest like ours.

Boutique Accommodation in Metaxourgeio With Character

Our upmarket rental house is located in a neighbourhood shaped by history, transformation and creativity. Here, timeless details sit alongside modern comforts. Together, they create a place that feels both rooted in Athens and ready for today’s travellers.

This balance is at the heart of our boutique accommodation in historic Metaxourgeio. Guests can enjoy elegant interiors while still returning to the ease and comfort needed after a day in the city.

The Vintage Olivetti and the Pleasure of Writing

The vintage Olivetti typewriter fits perfectly in Silk House. Introduced in the early 1930s, the M40 came from an era when letters, accounts and ideas took shape slowly and deliberately. Olivetti developed the M40 around 1929-1930 to replace its earlier M20 model. Of course, its original setting remains a mystery. That uncertainty is part of its charm.

Still, it is easy to imagine a similar typewriter in an Athenian household. It may have carried news, plans, private thoughts, unfinished poems, or business correspondence. For guests, it is a gentle reminder to write again:

  1. Bring a notebook.
  2. Send a postcard home.
  3. Record the details you don’t want to forget.

Rotary Telephones and Meaningful Connection

Like the Olivetti, the rotary telephones recall an era when communication required time and intention. The OTE Group Telecommunications Museum records that automatic rotary-dial phones first appeared in Greece between 1910 and 1930. During the 1930s, black Bakelite-and-steel desktop models appeared alongside more luxurious phones.

We’ll never know where this particular Olivetti first rang. However, similar models could plausibly have appeared in well-connected Greek households. Private landlines remained a luxury for many Athenians at the time.

These treasures of bygone days are not museum displays. They are part of Silk House’s personality. They make an art-filled stay in the capital feel tactile and connected. They also remind us of rituals worth keeping. A long, leisurely breakfast. A proper conversation. A moment without interruption.

Creative Details, Luxury and a Slower Stay

Art can turn hospitality spaces into small galleries. Yet it can also change the way we enjoy our stay. At the Silk residence, all our items were chosen for the feelings they evoke. The typewriter suggests thoughtfulness. The telephones inspire connection. The travel trunk brings a sense of movement and arrival. The sculpture offers stillness.

As a result, our private retreat in this artistic neighbourhood encourages a slower, gentler pace. Guests may linger over dinner. They may read in the floral upholstered armchair. They may notice the crystal chandelier catching the afternoon light. These classic touches create a bridge between past and present. They offer a setting for curiosity and quiet conversation.

Make the Story Your Own

Book your getaway at Silk House. Relax in rooms adorned with Greek-inspired artworks. Notice the Olivetti between outings. Imagine a voice travelling through an old telephone. Let the carved chest and old trunk suggest journeys still to come. Then, step out into Metaxourgeio and let the neighbourhood add its own individual spirit to your stay in the city.

At our boutique accommodation in Metaxourgeio, we hope you leave feeling rested, inspired and more closely connected to Athens.

" We had such a lovely stay at the Hill. It’s incredibly neat and well organised, all you need is present at the apartment. We walked up the hill in the morning for a beautiful view over the city and if you’re looking for a nice place to spend an evening nearby, Jazz in Jazz is recommended! "
